KHDA Chief of Creativity, Happiness, and Innovation

Hind Al Mualla is a people person. As KHDA’s Chief of Creativity, Happiness and Innovation (CHI), her passion for people ensures that the organization nurtures the best talent, builds valuable working relationships and makes the most of innovative ideas. 

Her team not only embodies the Chinese meaning of the word chi–life force–but forms the basis of the way we work, having positive relationships with our customers and each other, and being happier in our work and in our lives. “The Chi team’s role is to harness creativity to build a more positive education sector with happiness at the heart of everything we do,” she said.

Hind believes diversity is one of the most exciting aspects of her role. “We all share the same vision; to give students in Dubai a high-quality education. Everyone in education is passionate about what they do and keen to promote change and development.”

Dr. Taleb Al-Tel

Professor of Pharmacy at university of Sharjah

Dr. Taleb Al-Tel received his BS in Chemistry and Chemical Technology in 1987, MS in Natural Product Chemistry in 1990 from the faculty of Chemistry, Jordan University and Pennsylvania State University, and PhD in 1995 from Tuebingen University-Germany. In 2003 he was appointed as a visiting associate professor at Duke University.

Al-Tel joined a Drug Discovery and Development Company in 2004-2007 as principal scientist where he led research on antiviral, anticancer, Obesity and Alzheimers treatments. In 2007, he joined the College of Pharmacy at the University of Sharjah as associate professor of organic medicinal chemistry and was then promoted to Professor in 2013.

He has given over 60 invited lecture, presentations, and keynote speeches and it the co-author more than 65 publications in leading US journals. In addition, he is the inventor on four US patents and patent applications.



Dr. Lucy Semerjian

Chair of Environmental Health Sciences at University of Sharjah

Dr. Lucy Semerjian (PhD in Environmental Sciences, University of Bradford, UK; MS in Environmental Technology, American University of Beirut, Lebanon) is currently the Chairperson of the Environmental Health Sciences Department at the University of Sharjah (UoS), and an Assistant Professor in Environmental Science and Technology since 2015.

Before joining UoS, Dr. Semerjian has served in academic positions (Research Scientist, Lecturer) at the Environmental Engineering Research Center, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon (2000-2013). She also served as an Adjunct Faculty at Department of Civil Engineering in American University in Dubai in 2014. Her research interests include water quality, environmental pollution control, water/wastewater treatment and reuse, and emerging contaminants (pharmaceuticals, hormones, personal care products, etc.) in environmental systems.

Dr. Semerjian has more than 25 publications in reputable international journals and conference proceedings, and she is a member of International Water Association (UK) and Water Environment Federation (USA).
